Here at Dashner Law, we’ve seen far too many accidents that have been caused by unsafe riding practices. Speeding down the road on a motorcycle gives you a rush like none other, but you still have to remember how dangerous that rush can be. Motorcycle accidents can be avoided by following a few basic safety guidelines.

Be Present While You’re Riding

If you’re tired, distracted, or angry, you shouldn’t be riding your motorcycle. Clear thinking is one of your best safety measures while you’re riding, so if you’re emotional or fatigued you’ll be better off stopping for a while until you’re in a better state of mind.

Run Down the Checklist

Before you ride, remember T-CLOCS, which stands for tires, controls, lights, oil, chassis, and stands. You’ll want to make sure that you check these six items each time before you set out for a ride since doing so could potentially save your life. Running down this checklist can also keep you from being stranded on the side of the road.

Slow Down

While speed is exhilarating behind the wheel of a car or while you’re riding your motorcycle, you’ll want to be mindful of just how fast you’re going. In 2008, an estimated 35% of motorcyclists who were in fatal crashes were riding above the speed limit. Enjoy your motorcycle, but do so at a safe speed.

Motorcycle accidents should be handled by experienced and licensed lawyers who specialize in motorcycle accidents. Get in touch with The Dashner Law Firm if you’re ever in an accident while on your motorcycle.
