When you are gearing up for some fun summer sports, you don’t want to forget about safety. Unfortunately, many personal injuries occur during the summer and can have a long-lasting impact on your life. We have put together some simple safety tips for summer sports that can help you avoid injury and enjoy your summer to the fullest!

Read Before You Sign

Many summer sports include waiver forms, particularly those for children. Make sure to thoroughly read the waiver to see what is or is not covered. You do not want to sign something that excuses outright negligence. Check to see if the sports league has insurance and how much is covered if were injured while participating. If you have a question about a particular waiver, you should always ask an experienced attorney.

Wear Protective Gear

Skating and biking are popular summer activities and one of the most common causes of severe injury. To lessen your risk of getting seriously hurt, wear proper protective equipment. Never forget to hear your helmet; it is the single most important piece of protective gear you can wear. It can save you from a traumatic brain injury and disability.

Use the Buddy System

If you prefer summer sports that can be done solo, like hiking or mountain biking, bring a buddy along. Having someone there can mean the difference between life and death if something goes wrong and you are injured. Even cell phones can lose reception in rural areas and leave you stranded. Having another person with you secures the ability for either of you to run for help if it is needed.
